Antique Meissen Porcelain Spill Vases, 19th .

19th century
Description

A pair of hand-painted porcelain green-ground spill vases, created by the skilled artisans of the Meissen factory in the mid-19th century. Popular in Victorian times, a spill vase was a vessel for holding thin slips of wood or paper spills used to light a candle or pipe from a fire. For convenient access, these vases typically sat on the mantelpiece. These vases are an unusual color, hand-painted with floral decorations framed in golden patterns, raised on four scroll feet and a circular base, and accented with gilt. They bear the crossed swords mark on their bases, along with the impressed numbers "72A" and “426” on both. The first model of this type of vase was produced by the Meissen factory in 1815.

The Meissen porcelain manufactory, founded in 1710 by King Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, was the first porcelain manufactory in Europe and led the industry throughout the 18th century. It set standards and created prototypes for European tableware and figural sculpture. All Meissen products are of very high quality, highly valued, and hold an important place in the history of European porcelain.

Dimensions: height 14.7 cm, top diameter 7.3 cm, bottom diameter 7 cm; weight of the first vase is 260 grams, and the second is 248 grams.

Condition: The items are in practically brand-new condition, indicating that the vases were not used.

Please examine the attached photos carefully, as they form an integral part of this description. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance. Please note that shipping costs include labor, packaging, and postage.
