Highland Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
It has a motto beneath "Sacra Jovi Quercus" translated as the Sacred Oak of Jove. The box has a stand away hinge and a gilded interior. It is in excellent condition with only very slight wear to the engraving.
This box featured in the book "British Silver Boxes 1640-1840, the Lion Collection" on page 109, item number 100. It is highly collectable and would grace any collection.
