Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A miniature terrestrial globe is a scaled-down three-dimensional representation of the Earth, historically produced as an educational tool, novelty item, or desk accessory during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Antique desk globes were typically constructed using printed paper gores laid over a papier-mache or plaster sphere, mounted onto a turned wooden base via a central iron or brass axis wire.

Authentic German globes often feature place names in German or specific cartographic publisher cartouches, accompanied by characteristic turned ebonised wooden bases and paper gores indicating historic geopolitical borders.

Position a miniature globe on a stack of books inside a shelving unit, or arrange it alongside scientific instruments on a study desk or mantelpiece as a focused decorative accent.

Keep the globe positioned away from direct sunlight and areas of high humidity to avoid discolouration and paper foxing, dusting it gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth.
