A late C18th pair of chairs, of the Chippendale country vernacular. These chairs constructed in beautifully figured solid elm feature a pierced splat back. Drop in upholstered seats, recently recovered in hand-dyed leather hide. Raised on square chamfered legs, supported by H-stretchers.An attractive, high quality and well presented pair of country chairs. Some odd minor marks and blemishes. Some minor old and extinct worm holes, typical of elm antique furniture, that does not affect the sturdiness of the chair in any way, and now treated as way of precaution. No loose joints. Recently upholstering in the traditional method, finished in hand-dyed leather hide. Good colour throughout the frames, very good polish and beautiful aged patina.
