Robert Hennel Georgian Silver Salts, London 1773

Description

This very elegant pair of George III silver salts was made by the illustrious Robert Hennell I and is dated London 1773. Each salt of of oval outline, the sides pierced with openwork geometric patterns surrounding a crested cartouche. The top with gadroon border. The base resting on four claw and ball footed legs.

Fitted with the original and rather stunning star-cut Bristol blue glass liners and sold with a pair of Georgian initialled salt spoons dated London 1824.

The Hennell family was a silversmithing dynasty that spanned four generations.

Hallmarks:

R.H for Robert Hennell.

Lion Passant.

London Assay mark.

Duty Mark.

Date letter "S" for 1773.

Condition:

Very good

No dings or dents.

Minor corrosion marks at places , commensurate with age and use.

Height: 5cm / 2 inches.

Width: 7.5cm / 3 inches.

Depth: 6cm / 2.4 inches

Combined weight: 20 g / 0.3 oz.
