Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Coalport cabinet plates from the Victorian era were decorative porcelain items produced in Shropshire, England, designed for display rather than dining. They frequently featured intricate hand-painted central scenes framed by elaborately gilded and reticulated, or pierced, borders.

Reticulated porcelain features openwork or pierced patterns in the rim, painstakingly cut out by hand while the clay was wet prior to firing. These pieces were subsequently hand-painted, glazed, and enriched with heavy mercury or raised gilding.

Authentic Coalport porcelain of this period typically features distinct backmarks, fine translucent bone china, and high-quality hand painting. The gilding on genuine pieces is thick and precisely applied over rich underglaze colours like cobalt blue or pink.

Decorative cabinet plates can be mounted on a dark-painted feature wall using wire plate hangers, grouped together to create a gallery wall, or displayed on brass easels atop a sideboard or mantelpiece.

Clean delicate gilded porcelain using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or an extremely light dust with a camel-hair brush. Avoid immersion in water, harsh detergents, or abrasive materials, as these can wear down the delicate hand painting and gilding.
