Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A preserve pot, also known as a jam pot or honey jar, is a specialised tabletop vessel designed to serve jams, marmalades, or honey during breakfast and afternoon tea. Historically produced in glass with silver lids, these pieces became standard additions to formal dining service sets from the nineteenth century onwards.

Mid-twentieth-century preserve pots predominantly feature heavy glass bases paired with sterling silver or silver-plated lids. Lids were frequently constructed with integrated spoon notches and loop or knob finials for practical daily use.

Authentic British silver preserve pots bear official hallmarks stamped into the metal rim or lid, indicating the makers mark, assay office symbol, fineness mark, and date letter. Items made in Sheffield feature the crown symbol along with the lion passant for sterling silver purity.

Position the preserve pot on a kitchen island, breakfast tray, or dining room sideboard to add a metallic accent. It can also be repurposed on a vanity counter to store small accessories or jewellery.

Hand wash the glass container in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly with a non-abrasive cloth. Clean the silver lid using a silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish without harming the hallmarks or metal finish.
