Antique Anglo-indian Inlaid Work Box

1900 - 1920
Description

A good example of an antique Anglo-Indian work box dating from the early 20th Century. It is made of a dense exotic hardwood with intricate brass inlaid decoration and brass strapped corners. The hinged lid opens to reveal a mirror below with an inlaid brass border around it. Either side are ornate carved and pierced racks presumably for pens or documents. There is a velvet lined tray inside the box which lifts out to reveal a lower layer which is divided into 5 compartments.

Alongside the brass decoration, the top of the box is also inlaid in brass with a dedication "FROM AMIN SONS & CO".

The box is in good condition and is strong and sturdy with a lovely rich patina. There are signs of age and use, some small chips and knocks and minor wear but no major damages or losses. The interior is generally clean and tidy and it comes with its original working key.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
