A rare large engraved map titled the Pacific Ocean produced by Edward Weller, an eminent engraver and cartographer (1819 to 1884), and based in London. The map has an interesting perspective as it replicates the globe with its outer edges catching the west coasts of North and South America, east China and Indonesia, Alaska in the north and the very fringe of Antarctica. The map records a multitude of islands - from the Caribbean islands, to Hawaii, the Galapagos and the many islands of the South Pacific, as well as Australia and New Zealand. The map�s title is at top right with Edward Weller�s name. The date of 1865 is approximate but reasonable. The map has a plain pine frame. The condition is very good, with no damage.
