Modelled with mouth closed on typical oak shield, with additional ivorine plaque to the front “Killed Wythop Woods March 8th 1920” (Lake district). Embossed to the rear of the shield P Spicer & Sons Taxidermists Leamington plus a four digit serial/stock book number. In my opinion the closed mouth fox mask is the most magical of all Spicer examples and far harder to find than ones modelled snarling.
For more information on this remarkable Victorian Taxidermy firm who has never been surpassed in the modelling of fox masks, see “A Record of Spicer’s” a book covering the history of this famous firm privately published by myself back in 2001.
Thank you.
