Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the mid-18th century, a George II bureau bookcase on stand combines a upper glazed or panelled display cabinet with a lower slant-front writing bureau elevated on cabriole or turned legs. The style is recognised by proportioned architecture, rich veneers, and functional interior drawers.

Cabinetmakers during the Georgian period primarily utilized highly figured walnut or mahogany veneers laid over solid oak or pine carcasses. Interior writing surfaces were commonly lined with wool baize or leather, accompanied by cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, oak secondary timber, uneven wear on drawer runners, and original iron locks. The walnut veneer should show natural patination, subtle shrinkage marks, and historical fading from sunlight exposure.

A bureau bookcase functions well as a focal statement piece in a study, hallway, or living area. The upper glazed section offers space to display ceramics or curated volumes, while the drop-down desk provides a compact, functional workstation.

Maintain walnut furniture by applying beeswax sparingly twice a year and placing the piece away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Clean original brass mounts with a soft dry cloth without abrasive chemicals to preserve the developed patina.
