Mid 19thC Mahogany Balloon Back Drawing Room Chair with Leather Covered Over-Stuffed Seat
A fine example from around 1850-70 and in very good condition, boldly-carved & modelled throughout with sinuous lines, having a moulded balloon back and scroll-carved bar, the back contiguous with the sabre rear legs, an over-stuffed seat covered in black leather with dome-headed edge fixings and a plain trim, on French cabriole front legs with cup & ball knees, this terrific mahogany-framed drawing room chair will impress in the most elegant of homes, whether period-furnished or more contemporary in style, fully-deserving of the admiring attention it will undoubtedly attract.
Max. Width at Front Legs 49cm x O/All Depth 54cm (19.25'' x 21.25'')
Height at Centre of Back 86.5cm (34'') & Height of Seat 47cm (18.5'')
NB: The dimensions have been measured in centimetres, then converted to an approximate equivalent in inches.
This piece dates from around 1850-70, so you may expect the mature character & patina of age, together with wear & tear commensurate with normal use, including extensive cracking of the leather to the seat but regular waxing should keep it supple. In all other respects, this chair is in very good, clean & sound condition and is ready to use in your home.
