A George II mahogany bachelor''s chest, c.1750.
 
The flush (''caddy'') top boasts crossbanding with canted edges to the fore, above a brushing slide over four long graduated drawers with brass swing handles, pierced batwing backplates and escutcheons. The whole is raised upon four bracket feet.
 
The chest has historic marks and scuffs in areas commensurate with age (please see photographs). The brushing slide left handle has been knocked and is slightly off centre slides but this does not affect the operation of the drawer at all which functions with sleek motion.
