A rare form of oil lamp, made from sheet and cast iron, probably used on board ship, hence the three legs and wide drip tray..... it would have been filled with fish / whale oil and then a lighted taper would have gone in the hole in the top of the reservoir....it would have been a delicate light, but quite a smelly form of lighting...! The lamp is in very good original condition and this is the first of this type I have been lucky enough to buy in a very long time...
German / French C1740-60.
