A nicely made 18thc iron rushlight with attractive twist to the stem and counterweight which terminates in a curled coil counterweight...it has probably been made in one of the many ''rural'' village forges that were to be found in every county at this time....the original base is a shaped block of pine, which still has remnants of original paintwork, underneath a very good patina...a lovely example of these very collectable pieces of early lighting.
