An exceptional 18th-century painted Gustavian chest of drawers, combining the refined elegance of Swedish neoclassical design with the decorative artistry of Italian craftsmanship.
Beautifully proportioned and richly detailed, this commode features a subtly curved faēade with three spacious oak-lined drawers, framed by graceful cabriole legs and ornate brass handles.
The original hand-painted finish, gently distressed through time, reveals soft tones of pale grey, cream, and blue — colours emblematic of the Gustavian palette. Beneath the aged surface, traces of delicate floral motifs and scrollwork evoke the influence of late-Rococo Italian decoration, creating a rare fusion of northern restraint and southern flourish.
