A very pleasing and beautifully hand carved pair of Chinese Buddhist lions left and right handed and raised onto stepped rectangular plinths all carved from the same section of timber. They are both standing in the traditional position with one front leg raised and the paw resting on a large pierced ball. They both display very good detailing throughout. The lions have an original gilt finish which is nicely patinated and the plinths are finished in red and black lacquer. Both lions are generally in good condition but have gained an age-related shrinkage crack, one on the front and the other on the reverse.
