Antique Victorian Solid Silver Cigarette Case Aesthetic Style - Birmingham 1880

£450    $569    €540
We are delighted to offer this exquisite Victorian solid silver cigarette case made in Birmingham 1880 with marks for Colen Hewer.

This cigarette case is decorated with the ''Aesthetic Movement'' style - an unusual, unique and collectable design with a differentiating style from counterpart pieces of the era.

The Aesthetic Movement, a precursor to the Arts and Crafts Movement was a decorative art style c1870-1900. Regarding this style contextually to silver, the designs were strongly influenced by Japanese themes of nature and wildlife with silverware being hand engraved with fine, minimalistic lines portraying birds, leaves and flowers.

The case fits ergonomically in the palm of the hand and has a very elegant curvature. The push button on the side is spring-loaded with a good audible ''snap'' upon closure.

The interior is also fully silver gilt which acts as a layer of protection from the contents inside oxidising/tarnishing the silver.

Overall, a fine example of Victorian aesthetic style silverware, ideal for box collections or as a practical piece one can carry in style. A distinguished and elegant piece that is bound to be a conversation starter for the keen-eyed and a discerning way to express your passion for antiques and artistic designs. Owing to its versatile shape and size, aside from snuff/tobacco, it could also be used to hold sweets, mints, medication or even as a small jewel box.

Full English hallmarks are present on the outside of the case with matching marks on each side.
