We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Canterbury is a low, compartmentalised piece of furniture originally designed in late eighteenth-century England to hold sheet music. Over the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, its use expanded to hold periodicals, newspapers, and books, often featuring a lower drawer for small accessories.

Edwardian Canterburys were predominantly constructed using solid woods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut. Joinery often includes dovetailed drawers, turned corner posts or finials, and brass drawer handles or castors.

Authentic Edwardian pieces dating from 1901 to 1910 typically display straighter lines than Victorian examples, featuring subtle hand-carved details, panelled construction, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, and original brass hardware with natural oxidisation.

A Canterbury functions well placed beside an armchair or sofa to store modern magazines, tablets, or books. It can also serve as a dedicated stand for vinyl records or sheet music near an instrument.

Maintain solid oak furniture by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting.
