London Fine Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
These two chairs represent a rare opportunity as pairs are increasingly scarce.

Of particular note are the attractively shaped arms which are supported by a swept back rising side stay. The arms have some really pleasing detailing to the end of each in the form of a hand-carved wave swirl - attention to detail which proves the quality of the craftmanship.

The Elm seat wood grain is beautifully revealed. The turned legs are unified by an 'H' stretcher to provide a robust base.
Overall an excellent pair of chairs and wonderfully comfortable too.
This pair will make a lovely addition to any setting and would even work well as carvers in conjunction with other similar types.

Both are in good order and ready to give another 150 years of service.
