Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Commemorative royal silver letter openers became prominent during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as functional items marking significant national events such as jubilees and coronations. British silversmiths designed these desk accessories incorporating sovereign symbols, regal cyphers, and ceremonial forms like coronation swords.

British commemorative desk items are crafted from sterling silver, which consists of 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. Authentic pieces feature full British hallmark impressions, including the lion passant mark for purity, an assay office symbol, a makers mark, a date letter, and occasionally a special commemorative stamp.

Authentic silver produced for the 1953 coronation features a distinct monarch portrait mark depicting the profile of Queen Elizabeth II alongside standard assay marks. Inspecting the hallmarks under magnification reveals the date letter corresponding to 1952 or 1953, as well as official royal cypher engravings.

A vintage silver letter opener can be styled atop a stack of hardcover books, positioned on a leather desk blotter, or displayed inside a decorative tray alongside other metal desk accessories. Its reflective metallic finish adds visual weight to home office study spaces and library shelving.

Maintain sterling silver by dusting regularly with a soft microfiber cloth and applying a specialized silver polish with a flannel cloth to remove oxidisation. Avoid abrasive chemicals or soaking, as moisture can trap under fine relief details and damage surrounding presentation velvet or storage cases.
