Large Fine Quality Japanese Satsuma Vase - Yabu Meizan

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Steve Sly Japanese Works of Art

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this rare larger scale Meiji Period (1868-1912) ceramic vase painted by the highly revered artist Yabu Meizan (1853-1934). This tall slender pear shaped vase is unusually potted in the Chinese Yuhuchunping style, Yabu has certainly picked a complex shape upon which he has predominatly painted native flora to an incredible standard, the carpet of flora ( millefiori) includes overpainted chrysanthemums in relief (moriage), all sitting above a bamboo trellis decoration that is borderded by a further geometric band above the foot rim. The elegant slender neck is further decorated with trailing wisteria falling from beneath the geometric banding around the softly flared rim. The vase is fully signed Yabu Meizan within a gold seal to the underside , a rare find that would certainly sit well within many of the major Satsuma collections around the globe.
