Here is a wonderful heavy pair of early 19th Century French Candle Sconces cast in bronze and gilded.
Each one consists of a highly decorated square back with Fleur-de-Lys, classical dolphins and a tangle of knotwork foliage with the heads of four green men peering out - breathing out flower tendrils as the spirit of the woods. The light of the candles reflects beautifully off this tangle of gold, and casts wonderful shadows and patterns amidst the gilded relief. At the base of each is a two branch candelabra.
Each one stands 28cm high, 24cm across and 10cm deep.
They are in good antique condition, with the surface wear to be expected of pieces of this age, but as I hope the photographs show, they both display beautifully.
