Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Regency period, spanning roughly 1811 to 1830, drew heavy inspiration from Greek, Roman, and Egyptian antiquity. Dining chairs from this era typically feature clean neoclassical lines, rolled or tablet crest rails, brass inlays, reeded turned legs, and carved horizontal splats.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised rich hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany. Decorative details were frequently executed using cut brass inlay, ebony stringing, or delicate wood carving, while seats were upholstered in silk, damask, or woven wool fabrics.

Authentic Regency chairs display hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, genuine brass wire or sheet inlays set flush into dark wood, and hand-carved decorative motifs like rosettes or acanthus leaves. Uneven patination and signs of original upholstery construction inside the seat rails also indicate age.

Regency chairs provide visual contrast when paired with contemporary stone, glass, or minimalist timber dining tables. Their dark timber and metallic brass accents complement modern neutral tones, marble dining surfaces, and bold architectural lighting.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage and lifting of the brass inlay. Clean the wood using a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax periodically, taking care not to snag dust under the brass edges.
