Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian Chesterfield leather hall bench is characterised by deep-buttoned, diamond-tufted upholstery, a structured wooden frame, and turned legs. Originating in the nineteenth century, these benches were built for public houses, billiard rooms, and grand entrance halls to offer sturdy, high-density seating.

Traditional Victorian benches were constructed using solid hardwood frames such as mahogany, oak, or walnut. Upholstery utilised full-grain cowhide leather filled with horsehair and natural fibres, anchored with hand-tacked brass studs and iron coil springs.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut joinery, solid timber frames showing age-appropriate wear, and genuine brass upholstery tacks rather than modern continuous studding strips. Original leather typically displays natural patination, craquelure, and varied colouration rather than a uniform synthetic finish.

Place the bench in a spacious hallway, boot room, or dining space alongside a solid timber table. The warm tan tones and structured silhouette complement neutral walls, stone flooring, and contemporary minimal decor.

Leather upholstery requires regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth and periodic treatment with a specialist leather conditioner to prevent drying and cracking. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to preserve the surface finish.
