Magnificent Japanese Meiji (late 19thc) Bronze Okimono Of Shogun’s Horse, Maruki Company

Exceptional Japanese Meiji (late 19thC) bronze okimono of the Shogun’s Horse by the Maruki Company. Beautifully cast, the stallion is depicted standing four square with its head slightly uplifted. It’s tack is realistically modelled and embellished with the Tokugawa mon, a seal mark underneath reading Maruki sachu seisaku (manufactured by the Maruki Company). Measure 36cm long x 27cm high x 12cm wide, weight 5.05kg. Stand and box not imcluded.
Excellent original condition.
Active during the Meiji Period, the Maruki Company were based in Nihonbashi ward in Tokyo. They are noted for the quality of their okimono and are renowned for producing fine quality bronzes of animals. They exhibited at many Japanese and International exhibitions at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th Century.
