This box can be fairly attributed to Namikawa Sosuke. His favoured pale grey wireless, musen, background illustrating a spray of Chysanthemum flowers. The Chysanthemums are in silver wire, yusen, cloisonne with expert shading to the leaves. Meiji. Sosuke usually brought the main illustration from the top of the box, down over the side and seamlessly onto the base. A typically Sosuke Silk lined box. He was considered one of the best cloisonne artisans of his time with patronage from the Imperial Palace. He was the forerunner of the ''painterly'' style of cloisonne and reproduced Japanese ''Old Masters'' in enamels.Condition.
