Hingstons of Wilton has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
This Antique mahogany extending dining table was made circa 1835.
The cabinetmaker used fine mahogany with an interesting fleck to the grain.
It is a comfortable 14 seat table when extended.

The dining table stands on the very desirable upturned tulip legs and stands on the original brass cup castors.
The frame stays in one place and the top slides open at each end, this allows for you and your guests to easily sit under the table and not having obstructions at the corners. It is a very clever way to get the most seating from a table.

Imagine the pride and joy this table will bring to you, especially as you entertain your family and friends around it.
It is bound to spark conversations to what would the original owners have chatted about as they sat around this table when it was first placed into a large wealthy owner’s home.

The 1830’s were a fascinating time in Britain’s history. Would they be discussing the abolishment of slavery in 1833, or the French Revolution of 1830 was also known as the July revolution, more likely though would have been talk of the ‘swing riots’ where the country people in the South and South-East had risen in anger about the new mechanisation of farming and the threat to their jobs. Starting with the destruction of threshing machines in Elham Valley in East Kent and the unrest moved to East Anglia and the whole of the South of England. Sadly, many of these rioters were treated harshly, some were sentenced to death whilst a great many were deported to New South Wales (Australia)
