Technical Description
A superb collection of five Georgian glass Toddy Lifters dating to the early 19th century. They all have slice cutting and slice applied knops to the necks.
A Toddy Lifter is used to transpose alcohol from a Serving Rummer or Punch Bowl held in the centre of the table into your glass. You place the toddy lifter into the liquid and let the reservoir at the base fill. Place your finger over the small hole at the top, move over the glass, and release, emptying the contents into the glass.
The Toddy Lifters come from the Michael Wallis Toddy Lifter collection put together over a 45 year period. To our knowledge, it is the largest and most comprehensive collection that exists with almost 80 different examples in size, cutting, knops and other decoration.
