Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A camphor wood campaign chest is a piece of portable storage furniture originally designed for military officers and travellers during the 19th century. Constructed with flush brass fittings and protective corner brackets, these chests were built to withstand transport during overseas voyages and military campaigns.

Camphor wood was prized for its natural aromatic oils, which act as a natural deterrent against insects such as moths and termites. Additionally, its dense grain provided water resistance and structural durability, making it ideal for sea voyages and tropical climates.

Authentic campaign chests typically feature flush-mounted brass hardware, including corner strapping, side handles, and locks, designed to prevent damage during transit. Look for hand-cut dovetail joints, heavy brass fittings secured with screws, and a distinctive aromatic scent when opening the lid.

An antique brass-bound chest functions as a striking coffee table in a living room or as a practical blanket box placed at the foot of a bed. Its rich timber tones and reflective metal hardware add warmth, texture, and historical character to modern minimalist or eclectic decor.

Dust the wooden surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the timbers natural lustre. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners on the brass fittings, and keep the chest away from direct heat sources to prevent wood movement or cracking.
