Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Retro era jewellery from the 1940s is defined by bold geometric forms, sculptural goldwork, and prominent central gemstones. Influenced by wartime metal restrictions and changing fashions, designers favoured yellow gold and large cabochon or step-cut gemstones to create striking statement pieces.

Rings from this period commonly featured high-purity gold, such as 18ct yellow gold, paired with polished cabochon garnets or deep red semiprecious stones. Metalwork often incorporated pierced, stamped, or turned decorative borders alongside split shanks.

Authentic pieces display period-appropriate hallmarks indicating metal purity, distinct maker marks, and evidence of hand-finishing along internal edges. The gemstones typically feature classic mid-century cuts, such as smooth cabochons, set securely within bezel or claw mounts.

A vintage dress ring serves as a focal piece when paired with minimalist contemporary tailoring or evening wear. It is typically worn individually on the right hand to highlight the detailed goldwork without visual competition from other accessories.

Clean the ring using warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush, avoiding harsh chemical solutions or ultrasonic devices. Store the piece in a fabric-lined jewellery box separately from hard objects to prevent surface scratching on the gold and gemstone.
