2 x Mounted, Gilt-Framed & Glazed Original Late Victorian Watercolours of Lakeside Scenes by Signed Joseph Halford Ross (Brit. 1866-1909)
Two fine & delicate watercolours by the prolific, listed artist Joseph Halford Ross depicting lakeside woodland scenes with blooming flowers. Not strictly a pair as one is of Thoresby in Nottinghamshire and its companion work is of Rufford in Lancashire but they are of the same size and framed identically. Signed, one to the bottom left-hand corner, the other to the bottom right and well-presented in a plain gilt mount and gilt frame with ornate details.
Little appears to be known of Halford Ross’ life but he specialised in English landscapes, mainly in watercolour and was very popular in print & postcard form in the early part of the 20th Century.
Height of Frame 37.5cm x Width 46.25cm (14.75'' x 18.25'')
Height of Picture within Mount 18.75cm x Width 27cm (c7.5'' x c10.5'')
Frame Thickness 3cm (c1.25'')
Condition is typical for watercolours of this age in their original frames, with some fading, surface marks and multiple small losses to the gesso mouldings but, otherwise, pictures, mounts, frames & glass are all in generally good, clean & sound condition.
