Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Old Sheffield Plate refers to a manufacturing process invented in the 18th century where a thin sheet of sterling silver was fused onto a copper ingot using heat and rolling techniques. Popular from approximately 1740 until the advent of electroplating in the 1840s, this method allowed for the creation of substantial silver-appearing items.

These items consist of a copper core layered with sterling silver on one or both sides. High-wear elements such as handles, borders, and feet were often cast in solid silver or silver-filled stampings to conceal copper edges.

Authentic pieces frequently show faint copper bleeding through areas of high wear and exhibit seamless silver borders designed to mask the layered metal construction. They typically lack modern electroplating hallmarks, occasionally displaying makers marks or engraved silver inset shields designed to hold heraldic crests.

A substantial silver tray functions as an organizing base on a sideboard, coffee table, or footstool to group decanters, glassware, or decorative objects. The reflective surface adds light and structural definition to contemporary rooms.

Clean gently with a soft cotton cloth and a non-abrasive silver polish formulated for historic metals. Avoid aggressive rubbing, harsh chemical dips, or exposure to moisture, as over-cleaning can permanently strip the thin silver layer down to the underlying copper.
