Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Masons Patent Ironstone China was patented in 1813 by Charles James Mason in Staffordshire, England. It is a vitreous, heavy earthenware ceramic formulated to imitate imported Chinese export porcelain at a lower cost, frequently featuring Japanese Imari-inspired motifs.

Ironstone ceramics were made by combining clay, flint, and slag to form a hard, durable earthenware body. These potpourri vases were decorated using transfer printing alongside hand-applied enamels in cobalt blue and rust orange, detailed with hand-gilding and fitted with pierced lids to release fragrance.

Authentic items typically display an impressed or printed crown makers mark containing the words Masons Patent Ironstone China on the base. Furthermore, original pieces feature substantial weight, deep cobalt and orange hand-painted glaze, and visible wear or aging to the gilded areas.

A lidded ironstone potpourri vase serves as a focal accent on a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or entryway console table. Its vibrant cobalt blue and orange palette provides strong visual contrast when paired with contemporary neutral backdrops or traditional dark wood furniture.

Clean the ceramic using warm water and mild liquid soap applied gently with a non-abrasive soft cloth. Avoid soaking the piece for extended periods or using chemical polish, as water trapped under glaze cracks or harsh cleansers can cause the gilding to flake off.
