Italian Majolica, also spelled Maiolica, is a traditional form of earthenware decorated with opaque tin glazes and hand-painted metal oxide pigments. Developing during the Renaissance, the style is known for figurative scenes, classical motifs, and vibrant glaze colours.

Pieces were fashioned from earthenware clay, fired once, and dipped in a lead glaze made opaque with tin oxide. Artists painted detailed imagery directly onto the unfired glaze surface before a final high-temperature kiln firing fused the colours.

Authentic Renaissance Revival ceramics display hand-painted brushwork, minor irregularities in the tin glaze, fine glaze crazing, and unglazed terracotta clay exposed at the baserims.
