Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Lighting from this era draws heavy inspiration from classical antiquity, incorporating urn forms, fluted columns, foliage reliefs, and symmetrical profiles. The combination of colourful polished marble, such as rouge marble, with gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts created high-contrast decorative accents designed for grand interiors.

Craftsmen hollowed and turned blocks of marble to form the central body or urn shape. Detailed bronze mounts were cast using the lost-wax or sand-casting method, fire-gilded with a gold-mercury amalgam, and secured to the marble structure using internal threaded rods and nuts.

Authentic period ormolu exhibits fine hand-chasing, subtle wear on high points exposing underlying bronze, and heavy cast density. Mounting hardware typically shows historical hand-cut threading or square nuts, distinct from modern mass-produced fasteners.

Pairing classical marble urn lamps on a minimalist sideboard or contemporary console table creates a striking visual contrast. Soft neutral shades complement the rich tones of rouge marble and aged gilt metal, blending historical depth into contemporary rooms.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, solvents, or metal polishes on ormolu, as these strip historic gilding; marble should be wiped with a damp cloth and mild pH-neutral soap, avoiding acidic solutions that damage stone surfaces.
