This is a beautiful oil on canvas painting after Raphael, depicting the Madonna and Child in the original giltwood Florentine frame, Circa 1880 in date.
It bears a label to the reverse of stretcher, ''Paoletti and Ferretti, Painters, Copies and Original Pictures, Via dei Fossi No 15''. Ferretti e Paoletti was a commercial art gallery recorded as being in operation at this address in 1880, see ‘Indicatore generale della cittŕ di Firenze amministrativo, commerciale, artistico, industriale e stradale’ (Tip. Galletti e Cocci, Florence, 1880 p.105. )
The painting is a traditional depiction of the ''Madonna and Child,'' a theme widely represented in Christian art, especially during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Based on the style and composition, it appears to be influenced by the works of famous Renaissance artists such as Raphael who was known for his serene and idealized portrayals of the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus.
The overall composition, soft colors, and serene expressions evoke the influence of artists like Raphael, known for his balanced and graceful Madonna depictions. The gold ornate frame emphasizes the importance and sacredness of the figures, further enhancing the religious context.
The muted palette—dominated by deep blues and reds—symbolizes Mary''s purity (blue) and Christ''s future sacrifice (red). The subtle lighting highlights the faces of both figures, focusing the viewer''s attention on their expressions, which convey a tender yet solemn interaction. This type of intimate depiction of Mary and Christ reflects the Renaissance period''s humanistic approach to religious figures, portraying them with a sense of warmth and accessibility.

Dunkirk Manor
Is a Grade II Listed Building in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire.
“The interiors at Dunkirk Manor were the culmination of a lifetime of collecting which seamlessly blended styles, cultures and textures across several centuries and reflected a unique personal style. The overall effect was atmospheric and theatrical, full of colour and eye-catching details, a breath of fresh air in a world full of dull and homogeneous interiors. It is now time for this collection, that has given so much joy, to be dispersed and go on to enhance other collections and interiors
Florentine frames
made in Florence are a centuries-old tradition maintained by several artisan guilds. Florentine items produced from the mid-19th century onward, typically reflect a contemporary interpretation of Renaissance art and furnishings. They have an ornate appearance, and are typically gold gilded.
