Antique 19th Century Spice Cabinet
A country made antiquity.
Here we have this fine example of a very rare Victorian (circa 1870) Walnut & Oak spice cabinet with Georgian influences throughout.
This cabinet is a country made miniature piece of furniture for a farmhouse or cottage which would traditionally have been used for storing culinary herbs and spices. In the 18th Century, many exotic spices which came from the West Indies, and the Orient were highly valued and kept in secure cupboards for example; Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Ginger, Cloves, Pepper, Vanilla and Paprika.
The cabinets carcass is made from solid Walnut, featuring an quarter cut Oak centre to the panel door. The cabinet is presented in excellent condition and will make a charming addition to any collection.
The panel door unlocks and opens to reveal 6 dovetail constructed drawers for organising a multitude of spices, each drawer has a lovely black porcelain knobs (2 smaller top ones) which are original to the pi
...ece. The piece could be used for collecting or for organising any small items/hobby use.
The cabinet is lockable via its antique key complete with its original brass keyhole escutcheon to front.
This cupboard is in fantastic original condition featuring its original French polished finish with a lovely rich deep colour. We have just carefully cleaned and waxed this cupboard, maintaining its original patina whilst giving a lovely natural sheen.
Please note; This item is in fantastic condition for its age as shown by the photographs. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents. However, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character to a piece.
