Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XV revival armchairs feature curved silhouettes, cabriole legs, and ornate carving inspired by eighteenth-century French design. Winged variations incorporate padded side projections originally designed to retain heat and block draughts.

Traditional French gilded seating incorporates a carved wood frame coated with layers of gesso and clay bole before gold leaf is applied. Upholstery historically utilises webbed foundations beneath silk, damask, or velvet fabrics.

Gilding from this period exhibits subtle wear where the red or grey clay bole layer shows through the gold surface at high-contact areas. Structural indicators include traditional joinery, carved timber frames, and evidence of hand-finishing.

Positioning a pair of gilded armchairs against a neutral wall creates a focal point through a contrast of texture and tone. Pairing ornate giltwood frames with minimalist contemporary architectural features balances classical and modern aesthetics.

Giltwood frames should be dusted gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush, avoiding liquid cleaners that can dissolve water-gilded surfaces. Velvet upholstery requires light vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and dry-cleaning methods for spot management.
