Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late Victorian and Edwardian eras in Britain, high-end games boards were frequently produced in the style of bound library books. Crafted from leather with gilt tooling, these boards were designed to sit neatly on a bookshelf or study table alongside leather-bound volumes when folded.

These boards were typically constructed from a strong cardboard or wooden core, bound in calfskin, morocco, or sheepskin leather. Gold leaf tooling was applied to create decorative borders and gridlines, with alternating squares formed by dyed or pasted leather sections.

Authentic period boards exhibit natural surface patination, minor rubbing along the folded spine, and impressions from hand-tooled gilt stamps rather than modern uniform foil printing. The reverse side often features blind tooling or marbled paper linings characteristic of bookbinding techniques of the era.

Display the board flat on a coffee table, console, or desk paired with a period wooden chess set, or position it partially open inside a glass display cabinet. It can also be styled vertically on a deep bookshelf to highlight its book-like leather binding.

Keep the board away from direct sunlight, radiators, and moisture to prevent the leather from cracking or peeling. Dust gently with a soft dry microfiber cloth, and occasionally apply a tiny amount of specialized leather conservation wax to maintain suppleness.
