A Large Bronze Sculpture Of Mercury After Giambologna, Circa 1880
£595 $757 €717
This bronze of Mercury is one of the most famous sculptures by Mannerist sculptor Giambologna, and was designed to be viewed from all sides. The original sculpture was created in 1580 and decorated the Villa Medici in Rome until 1780, when it was then moved to the Uffizi Museum in Florence and then finally to the Bargello National Museum in 1865. This bronze measures 62cm high and is shown on a round marble plinth. There is some minor age related wear and the caduceus is missing as in many of the sculptures of Mercury. It is a fine bronze and very decorative.
