Description

A superb example vintage country house folding fire guard, almost certainly French, c1930. Made of cast metal, it is hefty and sturdy and stands solidly on the frame legs, both when opened out and closed up. The frame, and elaborate inner panels of scrolls and foliage, is completely lined with strong mesh, to ward off the fire sparks. The top of the frame curves upwards into a double scroll which forms a very efficient handle. The metal has a verdigris type finish. It’s impressive decorative design will screen the fireplace well when not in use, as well as being a spark guard when the fire is lit. Excellent condition and good working order.
