This good quality early 19th century Netherlands hallmarked box is very well made and of a good weight. It has a decorative lid with an embossed scene depicting a group of villagers gathered outside an inn enjoying drinks and each other�s company. In the background, there is a distant view with trees and cottages. The lid opens onto a stop hinge and closes onto a rebated rim. The box has a raised and moulded top edge and an identical plinth which adds style and strength to this early continental box which is hallmarked in several places as shown in the photographs.
