These cleated ends are always a sign of quality and their purpose is to help ensure that there is not to much movement between the planks from which the top is constructed. They have certainly served their purpose on this occasion.The base is attractive, no structural defects to speak of, just the usual and expected scuffs, scrapes, digs, dents etc and that in combination with the cross stretchers results in the table being particularly robust and solid.
