A Good Quality And Charming 18th Century Georgian Oak Dresser Base Sideboard, Retaining Good Rich Colour Throughout, Having Rectangular Top Over Three Drawers With Original Brass Swan Neck Handles And Crossbanded Decoration To Elegant Shaped Apron, Raised On Attractive Cabriole Legs.
This lovely dresser base is practical, functional, elegant, full of character, and retains all of its original features.
Retaining an good rich colour throughout, it has clearly been well used, but also well loved and looked after during the 200 years plus of its existence. Aside from the relatively standard and expected old marks, scuffs, scrapes, scratches, and dents there is absolutely no restoration to speak of and it is pretty rare to find a dresser base of this period retaining its original brass swan neck handles like this one does.
Despite almost certainly being made in the countryside somewhere, this dresser base has a relative formal feel about it and we wonder if maybe the maker spent some time in one of the big cities, perhaps apprenticed to one of the large, formal cabinet making workshops of the time, before returning home to put his new found skills to work with whatever raw materials were in plentiful supply locally.
Perfect for a variety of places around home this dresser base would look beautiful along a wall in a narrow hallway, on the back of a large settee, in a kitchen/dining room, or even in a living room due to its relatively restrained form.
We are sure that there are a whole host of other settings that it would also work beautifully in.
As with all of the items which we offer for sale this oak dresser base has passed through our workshops, where our highly trained antique furniture restorers have given it the once over in terms of a clean and natural wax polish, before being presented for sale. That of course leaves it ready to be placed straight into the home, or even office, for immediate use.
