If you are looking for a sumptuous fireside chair to re-upholster this winter then this high Victorian example may suit your needs. As you can see, the frame of this walnut spoon-back chair is beautifully carved. The Victorians knew a thing or two about ergonomics, so it''s also very comfortable. Apart from its top cover, the current upholstery is still very firm and well-defined. To help minimise costs and time, I think you will be able to keep a large percentage of the current traditional horsehair upholstery in place. The frame itself is structurally sound, however, in the swirl of carvings that decorate one of the arms there is a very minor and historically repaired split to the walnut. It is the width of your thumb, hardly noticeable, and during restoration can be lost to the eye completely. A super period chair that needs some tender loving care to bring it back to its full glory. Measurements of seat - 49 cm side x 52 cm deep.
Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.
We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.
