Christian Davies Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The lower section retaining the original velvet writing surface with fine quality ormolu mounts and mouldings. Having three frieze drawers with mahogany linings and the original locks with working key. Raised on ormolu mounted cabriole supports with Satyr masks on each side. The desk is finished around the back so can be free standing also. Although French in design the superior quality and the cabinet making is certainly English probably made by Gillows or Holland & Sons. This desk was originally the property of a Lady from Walton Manor in Buckinghamshire. English circa 1870-1880
