As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this high quality Meiji Period (1868-1912) bronze and mixed metal okimono attributed to Sano Takachika, the humorous pair of muscular Oni stand upon a fitted lacquered wood base and wrestle with a huge glass ball above their heads, wearing only loincloths with finely inlaid various mixed metals. You will note the masks on the legs of the trunks as well as the gilt bracelet and anklets on each oni, an almost identical model of a single oni by Takachika is housed in the Dr Naseer D Khalili collection, a fascinating humorous and high quality mixed metal group for your Japanese works of art collection .
