A walnut cased fusee drop dial wall clock. A 12'' painted dial signed ''DENT LONDON'' with blued steel hands. A flat bottomed case with marks showing it was fixed on a gallery perhaps. This has a rear winding mechanism via a back door and a hand set/dial adjuster. A cast brass bezel surround. An 8-day duration fusee timepiece mechanism. Circa 1885.
Dent of London are noted clockmakers of high-quality timepieces. Dent was founded in 1814 by Edward J. Dent, the company was the maker of the Great Clock of Westminster (Big Ben). This has the triangle mark around the Dent name to the dial showing that it was made after 1876.
This would have been made for rear winding access, likely to be a public place. You can use it as a ''normal'' wall clock but you would need to lift it off the wall to wind it once a week.
From Kembery Antique Clocks Ltd you can expect a genuine antique wall clock that has been serviced with 12 months guarantee. Please contact us for a personal delivery quote. We are members of The British Watchmakers and Clockmakers Guild. We can send a Whatsapp video in more detail.
