Fabulous Antique English Biscuit Box in Silverplate by Padley Parkin & Staniforth of Sheffield C.1860

Description

A stunning and highly decorative Victorian biscuit box, most unusual with large oval repousse panels interspersed with repousse floral decoration. The domed hinged lid almost looks like a Royal crown with panels to compliment the box and a classical urn shaped finial.

The box stands on an integral pierced or reticulated tray, which in turn stands on three wonderful "winged" Lions's paw feet.

The underside is fully marked by the renowned silversmith Padley, Parkin and Staniforth of Sheffield; dating to c.1860. Excellent condition, a few very minor dints (insignificant but mentioned for accuracy). 8 1/2" tall with the tray diameter measuring approximately 8".
